Bosnia-Herzegovina

1999-2001

The aim of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Forestry Programme is to support the sustainable management of forests and the revival of the forestry/wood processing sectors, to bring about long term economic and ecological sustainability, to meet urgent demand for reconstruction materials, and to increase employment opportunities in rural areas devastated by war. The objectives of the project include the establishment and operation of two Project Implementation Units (PIU?s) to manage, monitor and evaluate the Forestry Programme (one in each Entity). The responsibilities of the PIU?s include the development of overall work programmes, financial reporting, procurement, deployment of short term expertise, programme audit/evaluation, and institutional capacity strengthening. The PIU?s will oversee the implementation of 4 forestry projects jointly funded by the World Bank and EU. The project is being carried out in association with "Prospect C&S" of Belgium.
